Every marriage that lasts goes through 3 stages. Stage 1 is the "Honeymoon Stage", and it lasts from 1 to 3 years. It is a wonderful time of bonding and getting to know each other. Enjoy it! Stage 2 is the "Disappointment Stage", and it lasts from about year 3 to year 20! This is a time of disillusionment and rude awakening. And it happens to everyone (whether they admit it or not.) This is the most challenging time of the relationship, and the one in which most divorces take place. A feeling of doom can develop that is very frightening. But this is not necessary! (Good news!) Because this is not the final stage. There is a "light at the end of the tunnel"! Stage 3 is the "Reality Stage". This lasts from year 20 on, and is a time of accepting and enjoying each other. You finally stop trying to change each other and begin focusing on the good rather than the bad.
Why mention this? Because this knowledge can actually shorten your learning curve. If you go into it with your eyes opened, stage 2 may not take quite so long. And even if that is not the case, it is much more BEARABLE knowing this - It DOES get better. So please do "take heart", because there really is hope!
